Something Old

Location, Location, Location.

Perhaps your something old is not necessarily a thing but a place. The wedding environment can dictate much of the style you wish to project.

State Park canopies have taken years longer than any of us have been around to grow into a soft and shady spot for a wedding. The canopies diffuse the sunlight in some of the most beautiful ways. We love the radiance a sunbeam provides as a gentle breeze blows. While this photograph conveys light and air, other State Park sessions provide a wonderful setting full of contrast, depth, and broodiness. Much of light + airy VS dark + moody depends on the time of year, time of day, and weather.

An old barn is a flexible location in terms of style. It transitions well from day to night. Daytime photos look beautiful for the light and airy fans. Nighttime photos look spectacularly dark and moody. This kind of a location is a great choice for couples who like to blend the two looks. Pro-tip: Be sure to speak to your photographer and wedding planner to carve out a small window for those nighttime, post-ceremony dark + moody couple's photos.

A beautiful, old church, located in East Nashville, poses itself as an excellent light and uplifted environment, so long as it's not an overcast or stormy day. The wood grain of the church pews, overhead wood beams, and ceiling balances the coolness of the stone walls. The ornate window allows additional light and uplifting energy to elevate the style. This particular church setting is a win for those who are fans of bright + light.

Something NEw

Sparkle and Shine

From a new baroque-inspired and styled mirror, new cowgirl boots, to the rings, all things sparkly and shiny reflect fresh love. While rings are the traditional concept of something new, some couples exchange wedding gifts. Such gifts (outside of the wedding bands) could also be incorporated as the lustrous item. These photos portray a wide-variety of styles in which couples have expressed as their own style. Blending a couple's style with our artistic reflection is an honor and gives us so much joy!

Something Borrowed

SEntimental HEarts

• Borrowed drop-earrings

• A cake stand

• A family heirloom wedding band

• Hand-sewn flower details from a mother's wedding dress applied to the bride's veil

• A bridal portrait session in which the bride modeled her mother's wedding gown

• An old door and kitchen chairs from a family kitchen

• A back necklace for the ceremony.

All of these things invite warm memories of loved ones both present and past. Incorporating borrowed items better connects us. This act can harmonize relationships, the ceremony, and the marriage. The images below are depicted in color, though several are curated in Black & White for a heightened emotional impact.

Something Blue

Like a Cool Drink of Water

The color blue resonates with us in a typical calming manner. Have you ever met a person who disliked the color blue? No, we haven't either. Some interior decorators recommend blue bedrooms for the calming effect. Some psychologists take it a step further explaining the association of blue and water equating to life. Whatever the case may be, we love it! Here are a few examples of how to incorporate blue into your engagement or wedding:

• The blue tones of an old barn well after the sun goes down as the bride readies herself in her blue jeans just seems to make sense and work.

• Navy blue pumps worn by a bride was a beautiful and traditional touch.

• A December engagement session showcasing blue tones at a Tennessee waterfall enhances the blue undertones of a shirt and wrap.

• The groom's blue tie appears to anchor the couple in this airy countryside wedding against the blue sky.

• The bright blue / turquoise in the peacock feather is an elegant way for the groom to partake in this tradition.

• A fun and exciting reception full of vivid colors, including this beautiful blue background, elevates the celebration as it radiates against the bride's reception attire.
